Songs of the Divine Mother: East and West - Benefit Concert for Poto Mitan

Cappella Maria, featuring Sharmila Guha and fellow LA Master Chorale Members, will present traditional and original songs to the Virgin Mary. Lalita Lily Diamond and the Mahadevi Ensemble will offer traditional and original songs to Saraswati, Durga, and Lakshmi. A portion of this concert's proceeds will benefit Poto Mitan, a documentary film about Haitian women. "Through powerful, compelling stories/lives of five courageous Haitian women, Poto Mitan will inspire and educate solidarity, global justice, and women's activists around the world and challenge them to think critically about their own work." The St. John Fisher Parish Choir, Soloists and Orchestra, directed by Alison Graff, will present a musical prayer for peace, featuring two choral masterpieces – selected movements from Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem and Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms. The soloists will be Marie Hodgson (soprano), Sharmila Guha (alto), Dan Roihl (countertenor), Kevin St. Claire (tenor), and Scott Graff (bass). Another highlight of the program will be Gerald Finzi’s Eclogue op. 10 for solo piano and string orchestra, featuring John Rusnak, pianist. A freewill offering will be taken in support of the St. John Fisher Music Guild and the concert series.
